Remember to poke the Shark in the eye
http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles...00010000000001
An Australian abalone diver told rescuers he was partly swallowed head-first by a Great White Shark on Tuesday but managed to fight his way free, suffering a broken nose and bite marks around the chest.

Holy crap! Man, those Aussies are built to last. I guess one would have to be with all the poisonous/deadly bugs, reptiles, and fish around there.

Shark attacks are pretty rare as we know. Just very dramatic news when they happen.
It is the damn jelly fish that are real killers.
When I visited Queensland that was a concern.

Its acrually a fallacy that you should hit a shark in its eye. If memory serves, when a shark bites, it has a cartilaganous membrane that covers its eye, thereby protecting the eye. Best to hit for the gills or the snout. The snout has the elcrto-receptor organs and you can get the shark to lose focus if you hit hard enough in the right spot.
But best thing to do is avoid getting bit. Wjat's amazing is that the majority of shark attacks in the US occur in water under 3 feet deep. Thats just nuts.

Gotta love this quote from the article:
"An average of 15 shark attacks occur annually in in Australia -- one of the highest rates in the world -- and just over 1 per year are fatal."
What does that mean? We had 1.2 deaths this year? 1 1/2 deaths? Aren't deaths generally in whole numbers, meaning you are either dead or not dead? Is this a strange Australian marsupial thing?
