The DF Super Skrull bust was sculpted by the Gore Groups Martin Canale, who has an impressive portfolio of sculpts that inlcude Sideshows Wolverine vs. Sabretooth and the premium format Green Goblin (just to name a few). I don't think the guy is capable of sculpting anything "awful", because he is just so talented.
I have no idea who sculpted the piece nor do I care .. my critique is based on this piece and this piece alone.

You want the detail as to why I think it's "God awful" ... the face is warped, the streching hand being so small and behind the sculpt makes for a lousy display, the paint job is horrible, the chin is over exaggerated, the connection of the arm to the torso is bad and the size of the piece is ridiculous.

And for the record, I have seen the piece in person at Danny's office, I'm not basing my opinion on these pics.

I also don't think that the Bowen piece does this character justice either, the hand should have been casted in clear flame, the base is a bit on the bland side, the paint job on mine is only average expecially where the connetions are concerned, and the use of the clear resin on the stomach to emulate Sue's invisiblity is wasted if you display the sculpt face forward because the Thing's arms covers it entirely ... so what was the point?

There you have it ... I'm an equal opportunity basher.

But given the facts of both sculpts .. the Bowen is still a better piece dispite it's faults.

Are you serious? I love his BD Omega Red bust, but I can't stop looking beyond the face of his Super Skrull, it's 'not very good'.
So I'm choosing BD Super Skrull.

The only thing I really like on the DF piece is the scale of the Thing arm. You really get a sense of the power. But I dislike the face, and the rest of the sculpt. That stretching arm is more reminescent of John Carpenter's The Thing, than Mr. Fantastic. It almost as if this Mr. F arm is withered and sick, not stretching.

I think the BD piece could be stronger, but I like it alot. I agree that the invisibility effect is lost on this piece, but I suppose its alright. What are you gonna do? Flame could have been better as well...

Overall, BD wins this.
