It's good, although it leans heavily towards the newer Dark Horse version. Picked mine up for 50% off at Borders last xmas.

DC's Beowulf was mentioned earlier. I loved this book as a kid. Don't believe it went any more than 6 or so issues,

I always wanted to see Thor/Sigfried and Conan in a follow up type story to What if Conan and Thor.

Ah, cool. Yeah, the "Conan the Phenomenon" devotes the last part of the book to the DH version, which has some great art, but I already know about the story behind it, so I honestly skimmed that. If the Ultimate book is more about that, then I probably wouldn't like it much--though I do like Roy Thomas' essays in the DH reprints.

The Garth Ennis' Thor mini-series 'Vikings' had as the bad guy, one of the most viscious Viking/Barbarian warriors I've ever read. I absolutely adore this mini.
Ennis so seldome writes traditional Super-Heroes and when he does, it's as fresh as the great outdoors. This is a bloody, fun barbarian book w/ a slant.

I stand corrected. The comic Star Reach did do Elic right. Here's a Brunner pic.

*Bump* -
I just picked up the Wolfskin Annual by Warren Ellis and Pagliarani, pub. by Avatar. It's been out for a couple of weeks now. This little one-shot is a ton of Barbarian fun. Should still be on the racks.
If you like hack and slash Barbarian exploit comics, you could do a lot worse. Check it out. It feels a lot like the underground barbarian comics from the late 60's and from Heavy Metal magazine.
Here's the wrap-around cover for the Annual.

Hmmm... never heard of that one.
How about 2000 AD's Slaine? Great stuff, especially when Simon Bisley was drawing it:

I know I have a Slaine mini somewhere downstairs in the long boxes. I also have some 2000 A.D.s with him.
Wolfskin, I mentioned earlier in this thread. Ellis did a 3 issue run back in 2006 and this annual came out of nowhere. Reminds me a lot of the Corben drawn barbarian stuff from back in the day. Well worth checking out. Now,,,,I gotta go pull my Slaines.
(actually think this guy would make a kick-a$$ statue)

I think this was Kull's first Marvel Comics appearance, and I used to own it.
