#3, buy a Dremel to do the drilling, sanding and polishing. Buy a tube of Tamiya Basic putty to fill the seams. Buy a small aluminum or steel rod to reinforce the joints (I use and 1/8). Treat yourself to an airbrush if you want it to look smooth. You will need an air compressor as well as a well ventilated area to work in. Buy some airbrush ready paints if possible. They don't need to be thinned down like Delta and the like. I've used Pactra but hear lifetones are very good as well. Good luck!
