My Calgary Expo 2012 Booty

Well, I had a great time at this year's Calgary Expo, and got a pretty amazing haul, if I do say so myself. It was super crowded on the Saturday (Fire Marshall had to step in and limit re-entry, etc.) but that didn't effect me too much, other than having to wait in a lineup to get back in for about an hour once. I ended up blowing all my cash around 3-4pm on Saturday, and Sunday just took in a bunch of panels. Anyway, on to what people actually want to hear about/see...the art! I guess I'll start with the published pages I picked up. I found a couple of really nice Al Rio pages at Bob McLeod's booth and couldn't pass them up. Dale Eaglesham had some Alpha Flight pages with him and I also picked up a couple of those. Most of the pages have a bit more of a description on their CAF page, so I will link to those, as well as attaching pics.

Alpha Flight page featuring Marrina & Puck:

Alpha Flight page featuring VIndicator:

Al Rio New Mutants Forever page, featuring Selene:

Al RIo New Mutants Forever page, featuring Selene & Magik:

Chaos War page featuring Herc & Athena:

I'll post the Con Sketches/Commissions in a separate post to keep this from getting too long!

Calgary Haul Part 2

And on to the Con Sketches/Commissions.

I brought a couple of Defenders #1 blank covers with me, but only ended getting this one done by Mark Dos Santos:

Betty as Valkyrie by Dan Parent:
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...94&GSub=129077

Love the design of this Valkyrie by Adrian Alphona:

Valkyrie in the mountains by Yanick Paquette:
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...27&GSub=129077

Valkyrie by Mark Texeira (need to get a better scan of this one):
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...24&GSub=129077

Horrible digital pic, but also got Mark Texeira to do this Vampi sketch in one of his artbooks:

Cassie Hack from Hack/Slash from Linsner:
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...52&GSub=129077

Valkyrie by Dale Eaglesham. This and the next one are my absolute fave pickups of the show. I got to watch him work on this one from behind his table. Really cool, and there are in progress pics on the CAF site:

Hela by Joseph Michael Linsner. Set this one up before the show and couldn't be happier with it. Its a bit NSFW, so no attached pic on SF.

And I think that is it. Thanks for looking!

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Thanks! I originally wasn't all that excited about the Calgary Expo this year. They seemed to take forever to announce their comic guests. They seem to be focusing more and more on the entertainment side, which is fine with me, so long as they keep bringing in top artists. I couldn't be happier with the pieces I was able to bring home, though. The Al Rio pieces were a great unexpected surprise and the Eaglesham and Linsner pieces are already among my faves. Now, I have to get ready for FanExpo in Toronto in 4 months. It will be my first trip out east for a show!

That's my one beef with the Calgary con, the heavy focus on entertainment. My first trip to ECCC was this year and it was just incredible because of the focus on comics. Really wish we had something like it in western Canada.

Either way, killer haul man, I can't wait to see what you get from fan expo!
